I discovered Soul Trak Outdoors via social media, as an avid thrill seeker and outdoorsman it caught my attention as something I might be interested in. I attended the Soul Trak Social’s Climb and Brunch event and immediately knew joining the group was a great decision. Climbing is something relatively new to me but with the instructors’ supportive nature, they made me feel like an expert. The day was filled with many smiles and helpful climbing tips to improve my technique. The motivation I received from the group was something I would have missed out on I decided to go climbing alone. I sat back in awe as I observed everyone’s interactions, the confidence and encouragement they exuded was contagious.
What I enjoyed most about the experience, was the diversity we added to the atmosphere around us. It felt empowering to see people of my color and similar background stepping out of their comfort zone and tackling feats that aren’t deemed “normal” for our community. Through the outreach that Soul Trak exhibits, I know events like this could have long sustainable positive impacts on our community. To see both instructors to first time climbers – who look like me, inspired me to both try hard and set goals to continue to do an activity such as this more often.
After climbing, the group hosted a brunch which turned out to be a great addition to an already fantastic event. At the brunch I was able to introduce myself to the group and learn a bit about what peeked everyone’s interests in joining Soul Trak. The founder of Soul Trak Outdoors, Tyrhee Moore, spoke to us at brunch and his passion for this project was evident in his words and enthusiasm. It was great to connect with like minded individuals and I am most definitely looking forward to Soul Traks next event!
