August Program Update

This month we are excited to announce our second Wilderness First Aid/CPR Course  from August 4 – 6, 2023, at Camp Fraser in Great Falls, Virginia and our annual Leader’s Adventure Week in Moab, Utah from August 24 -28, 2023. We appreciate you and can’t wait to see you in the outdoors!

We start with our monthly Bouldering Night at the Bouldering Project-DC on Eckington Pl in NE Washington today, August 2. The event takes place the first Wednesday of the month and is a community centered program offered at no cost to the first 25 Soul Trak participants, community members thereafter pay an entry fee but receive free rentals. We’re looking forward to seeing  new faces at our popular, climbing event. Volunteers are available to show first-timers how to boulder.

So please reach out to them if you need some assistance!

Join us for our Wilderness First Aid/CPR Course (WFA/CPR) from August 4 – 6, 2023, at Camp Fraser in Great Falls, Virginia. Prepare for the unexpected with this fun, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine. In this course, you’ll learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, how to manage environmental emergencies, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions. This certification is a huge asset, as many outdoor employers require a Wilderness First Aid /Wilderness First Responder certifications to lead and instruct outdoors. We have 3 spots left!

Let’s explore Rock Creek Park, DC’s very own national park! Bring your bike down to the Beach Drive Walking/Biking Path where we will meet to bike up Beach Drive and back down. This stretch of Beach Drive is closed to car traffic on weekends, so we will ride on the road and enjoy zipping through Rock Creek Park. This route is 5.4 miles long one way,  and relatively flat. We will ride to Norman’s Farm Stand, where we will stop for a brief break and riders can purchase fresh fruits or snacks to fuel up. Then, we’ll ride back to the starting point.  In total, this ride will be 10.8 miles round trip. Bikes and helmets will not be provided for this event. However, there is a Capital Bike share station that is about an 11-minute bike ride away from the starting point.

Soul Trak will be hosting its annual Soul Trak Leader Adventure Week again this year in Moab, Utah. This 4 day weekend will consist of many exciting activities and workshops led by both Soul Trak staff and program partners. This weekend is a great opportunity to deepen our bonding experience as a network of outdoor leaders, further our learning around leadership and diversity, and continue to engage in outdoor recreational activities that promote teamwork, skill building, and expand our tolerance for adversity.
