January was an exciting month for Soul Trak!
We kicked off the year with our very first Soul Trak Top Rope Climbing Meet-up at Movement in Crystal City! Thirty community members came together to sharpen their climbing skills, learn new techniques, and challenge themselves on fresh routes.
Next, we hosted an Environmental Film Fest, featuring a powerful selection of local and international short films focused on environmental issues. Attendees also participated in a panel discussion with community leaders, exploring ways to create more inclusive outdoor spaces for communities of color.
A week later, we held our first Kayak Pool Session of the year! Five participants joined us to practice wet exits, rolls, and other essential techniques, preparing for our July Whitewater Kayaking sessions.
As we gear up for our USVI Service Trip in March, we hosted a Pre-Orientation meeting for community members interested in joining us. We’re thrilled to bring a group to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they will engage in service projects and explore the island’s stunning landscapes.
Mid-month, in partnership with Martha’s Table and Anacostia AMP, we organized a community clean-up and winter item giveaway. Ten Ward 8 youth joined Soul Trak volunteers and staff to give back to the community and help distribute much-needed winter essentials.
We wrapped up the month with the Snow Show Fundraiser, a celebration of creativity and sustainability, where local youth showcased their innovative sustainable winter fashion designs!
