We’re thrilled to kick off March with our annual volunteer service trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where we’ll be dedicating time and effort to important community initiatives. This is just the beginning of an exciting month, as we will also be leading a guided hike through the National Arboretum in collaboration with the 2025 Taking Nature Black Conference. This partnership will allow us to explore and celebrate the intersection of nature and culture, fostering a deeper connection to the outdoors.
In addition to these experiences, we’ll be hosting a variety of engaging activities, including Kayak Pool Sessions designed to introduce participants to water sports in a supportive environment, and Bouldering Night for those looking to challenge their climbing skills in a fun and friendly atmosphere. We’re also planning a community hike along the historic Fort Circle Trail, where we’ll teach and practice Leave No Trace principles, reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship.
One of the highlights of the month is our upcoming hiking trip with high school students from Ward 8. This initiative aims to get young people outdoors, helping them connect with nature and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles. We’re excited to introduce them to the beauty and benefits of hiking while emphasizing the importance of preserving the natural world around us.

February 2025
In February, we continued to build momentum with a packed month of programming! We hosted a pre-trip orientation and preparation session for the upcoming USVI service trip. Our monthly bouldering and Kayak Pool Sessions provided opportunities for community members to practice climbing, falling, and rolling in the water. We also held our 2nd annual Howard University Bison Ski Trip, where 23 students traveled to Snowshoe, WV, for a weekend of skiing and snowboarding. Our newly welcomed College Ambassador cohort played a key role in planning and facilitating the trip. We wrapped up the month with an exciting Indoor Top Rope Climbing session at Movement, where participants stepped outside their comfort zones, learned to belay, and sharpened their climbing skills!
