Q2 Update: In Full Swing and Soaking Up Summer Impact
As we close out the second quarter of the year, we are excited to reflect on the incredible work Soul Trak has done so far, and we are energized for the months ahead. From impactful community outreach to engaging outdoor programs, we’ve seen great strides in our mission to make outdoor recreation more accessible to DC residents.
This quarter, Soul Trak engaged 327 participants across a range of indoor and outdoor programs. Our kayaking programs were the most popular this season, drawing in nearly 90 participants—a clear sign of the growing interest in active, skill-building experiences on the water.
In April, our Nature Every Month series focused on Earth Day, with participants joining together to clean up around the Anacostia Community Museum in Southeast DC—an inspiring day of local stewardship and environmental care.
Additionally, we held our Environmental Leaders Retreat in Harpers Ferry. This weekend allowed our youth leaders to practice outdoor leadership, communication, and facilitation skills in preparation for leading Soul Trak programs and their future adventures.
In June, we also hosted some of our signature programs, including our Youth Adventure Week camp in Shenandoah National Park, where 12 campers partnered with park rangers for hands-on service projects like trail maintenance and endangered species data collection. Campers left with their Junior Ranger badges and glowing praise from park staff for their curiosity, leadership, and commitment.
As we head into the third quarter, we’re fully in summer swing and thrilled about what’s ahead. We’re especially looking forward to our Soul Trak Backpacking Program, launching our Whitewater Kayaking Cohort, and closing out the season with an unforgettable trip to Moab, Utah.
We couldn’t do this without our incredible community of participants, volunteers, and partners. Thank you for helping us grow this movement and deepen our impact..
