On March 8th, Soul Trak had the unique opportunity to be a part of the 2025 Taking Nature Black Conference. This annual event, hosted by the Audubon Naturalist Society, is dedicated to celebrating and amplifying Black voices in environmentalism, conservation, and outdoor engagement. It brings together leaders, activists, and community members to discuss the intersection of race, nature, and environmental justice.
As part of the conference, Soul Trak’s Operations Manager, Colby, led a reflective nature walk through the National Arboretum, offering attendees a chance to slow down and process everything they had learned over the past few days. Participants joined us from across the country—Colorado, New York City, Maryland, and Washington, DC and Virginia —coming together to experience the beauty and serenity of this special green space.
Our journey began at the Visitor Center, to the Asian Collection, and down a path that led to an open grassy area overlooking the Anacostia River. This route was chosen intentionally—not only to showcase the Arboretum’s diverse landscapes but also to offer a space for reflection. The Anacostia River, central to the DC community, is also deeply significant to Soul Trak, as we frequently organize activities on and around its waters. For many attendees, this was a first-time visit to the National Arboretum, and it served as a powerful setting to connect with nature, themselves, and each other.
The impact of the walk was felt by many, as reflected in the words of participants:
“Staying deeply rooted in nature and community soothed my weary soul. Left feeling connected, calm, and grateful.”
As the Taking Nature Black Conference came to a close, this nature walk provided a grounding moment—an opportunity to carry the lessons of the past days forward with clarity and purpose. Soul Trak is honored to have played a role in this meaningful event, reinforcing our mission to foster community, inclusivity, and stewardship in outdoor spaces.
Stay connected with Soul Trak for more opportunities to explore, reflect, and engage with nature!
