Happy New Year!!! We are excited to start a new year of programming with a packed week of winter sports, service, and bouldering. January also signals the start of our third Environmental Leadership Cohort with orientation, ice-skating and indoor climbing.
The Environmental Leadership Cohort (ELC) will be comprised of 13 leaders from the greater DC Metro area, representing a wide variety of environmental interests and a diverse range of personal and professional backgrounds. This cohort will actively serve a 12-month commitment within the program from January to December 2023, focusing on stewardship initiatives, community organizing, and leadership development. Please join us in welcoming: Brittney Ainsworth, Adedana Ashebir, Lehna Asongwe, Amirah Dales, Gloria Gray, Rediate Hailemeskel, Christina Hester, Price Holman, Jaelynn Jarman, Cheri Lee, Ayia Lindquist, Tiffany Pauls, and Robin Shipman to the Soul Trak community.
We start the new year with our monthly Bouldering Night at the Bouldering Project-DC on Eckington Pl in NE Washington on January 11. The event takes place the first Wednesday of the month and is a community centered program offered at no cost to the first 25 Soul Trak participants, community members thereafter pay an entry fee but receive free rentals. The event will go back to first Wednesdays in February. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone re-connect after Winter break and adding to the popular, growing, climbing community of Soul Trak boulderers.
As we look ahead to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, we are excited about ice skating at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden on Saturday January, 14. The event is open to all levels. We will rent skates and passes for participants at the location. Lockers are available on a first come and first come basis. Warm drinks are available at the pavilion cafe next to the skating rink. On Martin Luther King Day Soul Trak, Salesforce, and DC Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Park Clean Up at Marvin Gaye Park. We will meet at Lederer Gardens, within Marvin Gaye Park, and clean up sites west of the gardens. There will be warm drinks, snacks, and a warming area at the Lederer Gardens greenhouse. Come out and join us in maintaining our cities underserved green spaces!
Lastly, we want to highlight our Annual Report 2022, in case you missed it last week. We have so much to be proud of over the last twelve months! Thanks again for a great 2022 and we look forward to seeing you again this year.
